Most fans of the boxing and muaythai sports in Thailand would know exactly why Somluck Kamsing is nicknamed “the eternal bragger”. Today, Khao Sod newspaper columnist Surasak Na Nakorn will get the Athens Games Olympic gold medalist to talk, or more precisely, brag, about some of his future plans, one of which is involving a lucrative muaythai match with international martial artist star Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Somluck, currently an owner of the Sor Kamsing muaythai gym, said he is still the same beloved down-to-earth Somluck despite the recent headlines saying that he has signed a contract to fight Van Damme.

He has confirmed of such arrangement with the Hollywood star, denying the rumor that he was just making up news to keep himself in the media attention.

“Someone like me has no need to create news,” he claimed, adding that he is happy enough with life as long as he is “able to eat and sleep”.

His current routine starts with supervising the fighters in his gym in the morning, then going to work at the navy, returning to coach the fighters again, and ending the day with some soccer matches with his employees.

Occasionally, he also goes to Lumpini or Ratchadamnern, the top two muaythai stadiums in Thailand, to “earn some extra”.

He said he is not particularly bothered in any way by the fact that he is scheduled to fight with a well-know Hollywood star, but he said he is a bit excited with the promised handsome pay from the fight, which he said is seven digits in Thai Baht.

Somluck said the money could help him start some business, but he refused to reveal the exact details, as he fears “the commander at home” may get upset.

Having about half a year before the match with Van Damme, the Thai fighter seems to have a lot of plans, not to mention the actual preparation for the fight.

He is planning to teach muaythai in France for about one month at the end of the year, before touring around the globe to fight opponents in Turkey, Sweden, and Denmark.

“And I haven’t talked about Japan yet. They want me to fight in K-1, but I’m not sure whether I should do that. In any case, I will have to consider the pay first. As a famous person, I am entitled to choose,” he said.

Somluck also said he “is not a bit afraid” of Van Damme, saying he will be able to use all his muaythai techniques except the elbows against the action movie star.

“Have you seen those Hollywood stars fighting in the movies? It’s all editing and using stunts,” he said.

“But this will be real. Anyway, what is important is that he is over 50 and I am 30 something. So, let’s see who will come out as the superior fighter.”

“Let’s wait to get excited in March next year. I guarantee I will certainly return home with the belt of victory and some US Dollars,” said Somluck.

หากเอ่ยชื่อ "โม้อมตะ" คนกีฬารู้จักมักคุ้นเขาไม่ใช่ใครอื่น "ไอ้บาส" เรือเอกสม รักษ์ คำสิงห์ ฮีโร่เหรียญทองโอลิมปิก 1996 ที่แอตแลนต้า สหรัฐ แม้วันนี้จะห่างหายจากสังเวียนผืนผ้าใบ แต่วงจรชีวิตแต่ละวันคงหนีไม่พ้นกับกลิ่นนวม-กลิ่นน้ำมัน บนเวทีนักสู้ตามเวทีมวยมาตรฐาน เพียงแต่วันนี้ต้องมายืนข้างล่างในฐานะของหัวหน้าค่ายมวยไทย "ส.คำสิงห์" และในฐานะของเซียนมวยตัวยง เท่านั้นเอง!!

"ไอ้บาส" เล่าชีวิตรายวันของตัวเองให้ฟังว่า ทุกวันนี้ก็ยังเป็นไอ้บาสของคนไทยตามปกติ แม้ล่าสุดจะมีข่าวคราวโด่งดังกับการได้เซ็นสัญญาไปต่อยมวยไทยกับดาราฮอลลีวู้ด "ฌอง โคล้ด แวนแดม" ซึ่งหลายคนคิดว่าสิ่งที่ตัวเองพูดคงจะเป็นราคาคุย สมกับเจ้าของฉายา "โม้อมตะ" เหมือนทุกๆ ครั้งที่ผ่านมา

จะไปจริงหรือเปล่า หรือสร้างข่าวเรียกกระแสเพื่อไม่ให้ชื่อจางหายไปจากวงการกีฬา!!

เรื่องนี้ "ไอ้บาส" บอกว่า "คนอย่างผมไม่จำเป็นต้องสร้างข่าว ทุกวันนี้กินได้นอนหลับ ไม่มีเจ้าหนี้มาตามทวงก็สบายใจแล้ว!!"

เช้าตื่นขึ้นมาก็มานั่งดูมวยในค่ายซ้อม

ตกเย็นกลับจากที่ทำงานที่ฐานทัพเรือ ก็ดูมวยซ้อม เสร็จจากนั้นก็ชวนลูกน้องมาเตะบอลพนันตามประสาคนมันชอบได้เสีย พอเป็นกระสาย...

หรือดีไม่ดีก็ย่องไปตามเวทีมวยลุมพินี ราชดำเนิน ไปหาลำไพ่พิเศษ ก็เท่านั้นเอง

ส่วนข่าวเรื่องไปชกกับดาราฮอลลีวู้ด ถึงวันนี้ก็รู้สึกเฉยๆ แต่จะตื่นเต้นหน่อยก็ตรงได้ค่าเหนื่อยเลข 7 หลัก พอที่จะกลับมาทำอะไรได้เป็นกอบเป็นกำ แต่ขอไม่บอกว่าไปทำอะไรเดี๋ยวโดน ผบ.ทบ.(ผู้บัญชาการทางบ้าน) เล่นเอา

ดังนั้นถึงวันนี้ก่อนจะถึงช่วงขึ้นสังเวียนก็เกือบครึ่งปี ก็ยังพอมีเวลาที่จะเตรียมตัวมากมาย

สำหรับตัวเอง เท่าที่ดูคิวคร่าวๆ ตามที่ผ่านสายตาในสมุดบันทึก ช่วงปลายปีนี้ก็ต้องไปฝรั่งเศส ไปเป็นครูสอนมวยไทยที่นั่นหนึ่งเดือน หลังจากนั้นมีคิวไปชกโชว์ที่ ตุรกี สวีเดน เดนมาร์ก

"นี่ยังไม่รวมที่ญี่ปุ่นติดต่อมาจะให้ไปชก "มวยเค-วัน" ยังไม่รู้ว่าจะไปดีหรือเปล่า ยังไงคงต้องดูค่าเหนื่อยกันเล็กน้อย คนมันดังนะพี่ยังไงก็เลือกได้" ได้ทีว่าไปนั่นเชียว!!
