Olympic boxing medalist Somluck Kamsing is planning to return to the mauythai ring with matches in England and Turkey in August.

Somluck, who won 1996 Atlanta Games featherweight boxing and became the first Thai athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, said he had again started his training in muaythai. He said he would fight in a match in London on August 16 and then in the semifinal of a tournament in Turkey later in that month.

The fighter said he would be paid handsomely for the matches although he declined to reveal the amounts.

“I have been kicking the punch bag for several days already. I have to begin take care of my body, but I am a kind of fighter who can fight well without much training. I am not bragging, I am just really confident,” said Somluck.

“I think I have a good chance to win the London event, and also to become the champion of the Turkish tournament. I only want body to be 60-70% ready, then I will be fine.”

“If I have done well in those matches, perhaps I will return to the professional muaythai career. I have been having the urges to punch and kick,” said the fighter.

Somluck said he had requested to fight with Spanish Joe Pattaya Combat, if promoter Peerapong Theeradejpong could not find any other opponent for the Spanish fighter who easily won his early match at Lumbini Stadium.

“I want to try with him. With a weight of 70 kilograms, I am confident I will be able to fight him comfortably.”

“My skill is far more superior and he will not be able to beat me easily like his previous opponent. After all, I already beat a more senior boxer from his training camp several years ago. If I can beat the senior, I wonder how far a senior would go,” said Somluck.
