The Lumpini Stadium chief has lifted the ban that prohibited fighters affiliated with its rival stadium Ratchadern to fight in its events.

The decision of stadium chief Major General Chalermkiat Photongnak to cancel the ban initiated by his predecessor Major General Theera Kraipanon is welcomed by the promoters and muaythai fans.

The lift has boosted the morale of the muaythai sport fans who have begun to speculate possible matches of top fighters from both camps such as the fight of Pornsaneh Sitmonchai from the Ratchadamnern Stadium’s Suek Onesongchai event and Jenrob Sakhomsin from the Lumpini’s Suek Petyindee.

The promoters are welcoming the move too, as they have long suffered the domestic decline of the sport and difficulty in arranging matches across the stadiums for their fighters.

However, the “exchange of fighters” announced by Lumpini may not be exactly mutual as some camps such as the Sitmonchai seem interested to switch affiliation to the rival stadium entirely, as opposed to sending individual fighters to the events.

But the lift is likely to promote the interdependence of the two stadiums and may be the first step in reviving historic cross-stadium events.
