Two-time Olympic medalist Manus Boonjumnong of Thailand says he is considering quitting amatuer boxing to turn professional, while Thai boxing chief General Taweep Jantararoj is promising successes in various upcoming events if Manus decides to stay with the national squad.

Manus, who won a silver medal in Athens in 2004 and a gold in Beijing in 2008, said he has been bored with amateur boxing and is unsure whether he should quit or continue with the national squad. He also said he has been offered to fight in professional boxing from both Thai and foreign promoters but he has not made any decision.

The Thai boxer said he is currently focusing on raising his child as well as managing his resort business.

General Taweep, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (ABAT), said Manus' wavering has occured for quite some time but he believes it is only temporary as Manus still wants to fight in the sport for the country. He suggested the boxer to focus on training and not to allow himself be tempted by other things.

"A boxer like Manus, which I am familiar and experienced with, is a very difficult opponent for any boxer. If he is patient enough, he would get to fight in the world championship in Milan, Italy, this year and in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, next year. If he is able to maintain himself and follow the plan, he would definitely be able to fight in the Olympic in 2012," said the Thai amateur chief.

"มนัส"ท้ออยากเลิกชก-เอาดีอาชีพ

"เจ้าเติ้ล"มนัส บุญจำนงค์ นักชกประวัติศาสตร์คนแรกของประเทศไทยที่สามารถคว้าเหรียญรางวัลได้ 2 สมัย ในโอลิมปิก 2004(เหรียญทอง) และโอลิมปิก 2008(เหรียญเงิน) ได้เปิดเผยกับผู้สื่อข่าวถึงอนาคตของตัวเองกับการชกมวยสากลสมัครเล่นว่า ถึงวันนี้ก็รู้สึกเบื่อๆ อยากๆ ใจหนึ่งก็อยากจะเลิก อีกใจหนึ่งก็อยากจะชกต่อ ซึ่งถึงวันนี้ก็มีต่างชาติมาทาบทามให้ไปชกมวยอาชีพ รวมถึงโปรโมเตอร์ในเมืองไทยก็มาทาบทามเช่นกัน แต่ทั้งนี้ "มนัส" กล่าวว่า ตนยังไม่ได้ตัดสินใจอะไรทั้งนั้น โดยส่วนตัวชีวิตทุกวันนี้คงจะมีแต่ลูกเท่านั้น และการทำธุรกิจรีสอร์ตส่วนตัวที่กำลังเป็นรูปเป็นร่าง

ด้าน "เสธ.วีป"พล.อ.ทวีป จันทรโรจน์ นายกสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นฯ กล่าวว่า ถึงตอนนี้กับข่าวการที่มนัสจะเลิกชกมวยนั้นเราคงจะได้ยินได้ฟังกันมาตลอด และก็ยังเชื่อว่าคงจะเป็นอารมณ์เท่านั้น ใจจริงยังสามารถที่จะรับใช้ชาติต่อไปได้ ขอเพียงให้ตั้งใจซ้อมและอยู่ในกรอบกติกา อย่าไปหลงกับสิ่งยั่วยวนมากนัก

"มวยอย่างมนัสนั้นตนรู้และสัมผัสมาด้วยตลอด เป็นมวยที่ใครเจอแล้วชกด้วยยากมาก ถ้าเค้าอดทนปีนี้ก็จะมีรายการชิงแชมป์โลก ที่มิลาน ประเทศอิตาลี และในปีหน้าชกในนามทีมชาติกับเอเชี่ยนเกมส์ ที่กวางโจว ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ ซึ่งถ้ารักษาตัวและทำตามแผนที่วางไว้ มนัสจะยืนระยะจนถึงโอลิมปิก 2012 ได้แน่นอน" เสธ.วีป กล่าวทิ้งท้าย
