Promoters of Ratchadamnern Stadium have all the reasons to worry about the nearby ongoing anti-government rally of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD). The PAD activities have been going on for weeks and will likely continue for a considerable time, causing the muaythai event turn-outs to drop drastically.

Many figures in the muaythai industry have suggested various ways out including holding the Ratchadamnern events at Lumbini Stadium. Although the Lumbini management has expressed sympathy to their Ratchadamnern counterpart, the relocation of the matches is unlikely as Ratchadamnern executives are not willing to swallow their pride and beg for help from the archrival stadium.

Ratchadamnern executives also dismissed another suggestion to reduce the commission fees, putting even more pressure on the promoters who had hard time making enough earnings. The Suek Daorung Phra Baht on June 5, for example, was able to collect only 569.920 Baht.

On the same day Hirun Jarueksuem of Jocky Gym brought 20 fellow fighters to the police station at Nangleng. He filed a request for the police to press charges on the leaders of PAD who he claimed had caused financial loses to the fighters.

Hirun’s attempt probably will not change anything.

Even the person with much more power, Minister of Interior Chalerm Yubamrung, would not dare to face the PAD leaders and has allowed them to mock him in front of his office.

He just would not defend himself when the PAD accused him of being such an incompetent minister.
