There seems to be no solution to the conflict of the two professional muaythai associations of Thailand.
The Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (PBAT) is probably feeling it is being challenged by the newcomer World Muaythai Council (WMC) that has aggressively and successfully launched the campaigns to promote the sport to the international market.
The WMC does not hesitate to show off its fighters aboard, while the PBAT, on the other hand, claimed it wanted to prevent “incompetent” Thai boxers from embarrassing the country. The PBAT even announced the Thai boxers fighting aboard must be certified by the PBAT first.
In response, the WMC refused to comply, saying the Thai fighters have never needed the PBAT certifications as they have always been able to support themselves to go abroad. The WMC said it would agree with the certification only if it was required by the host of the event.

After a long absence, the hooliganism at the boxing stadium has returned. The flying water bottles, small coins, snacks and various tropical fruits have added one more problem to muaythai in addition to the incompetent judges, compromising promoters, and the fans who have been a bit too comfortable.
Fighters Payaknum Sidniwat and Yodprabsuek Sidtanai-odd were both using all their excellent skills and technique in the match at Rajadamnern stadium. The fight was so exciting to Thai and foreigner spectators, and gamblers and mere fans. Payaknum and Yodprabsuek were so equally matched and no one would complain if one or the other would win the score.
But judge Samas Chantakloi ruined this great match by nominating Payaknum as the winner while giving higher scores to Yodprabsuek. The referee, who did not look at scores, immediately declared Payaknum winning the fight. But then judge Prommes Chaksurak noticed the mistake and announced that the earlier result was incorrect and Yodprabsuek was the real winner.

The Onesongchai match last Thursday at Rajadamnern stadium was not the first time the judges had to change their decision, but it was the first time for technical delegate Prommes Chaksurak to have to use his authority.
Prommes noticed one of the three judges, Samas Chantakloi, nominated the fighter who received a lower score from the tally, resulting in the referee announcing the wrong winner. Prommes then recounted the scores and declared the other fighter as the winner instead.
The spectators went rowdy immediately and started throwing water bottles to the judges, prompting the frightening tourists to flee the scene and Prommes to cancel the match and nullify the result.
However, Prommes’s decision to correct the result was perhaps not necessary as the fight itself had satisfied the spectators as Payaknum Sidniwat and Yodprabsuek Sidtanai-odd were equally matched. Each of the fighters could win with the tally and the crowd would probably accept the result.

The Onesongchai match on last Thursday was particularly exciting as the action spilled out of the ring. The chaos had started when a judge, who once received the title of the Excellent Judge of Rajadamnern stadium, unexpectedly made a mistake of “scoring the wrong fighter.”
The angry spectators then started throwing water bottles and tried to pick fights with the judges, security guards, as the other staff. The guards were outnumbered and could do nothing to stop the mobs as they were already busy defending themselves.
The judges had no choice but to end the match and Prommes Chaksurak announced the match was cancelled. But criticism ensues about the event and organizer’s inability to prevent and control the disorder. Some call for a reform of the judges, while others want the security guards to be more forceful. What is certain is that the whole team of judges will have to make a public apology.
