WBO bantamweight junior champion Fernando Montiel says he wants to fight with the winner of the match of Christian Mijares and Vic Darchinyan. “I want to fight Mijares because I believe I can beat him, either in the 115- or 118-pound weight class. This great fight is coming sooner or later,” said Montiel. Mexican Mijares is holding the super flyweight titles of WBC and WBA, while opponent Australian Darchinyan is the IBF junior bantamweight champion. Their unification match will be held on November 1. Montiel said he preferred to Mijares to win the match and be his opponent, although the WBO champion is already scheduled for a title defending match against Juan Alberto Rosas, a fellow Mexican boxer, on October 10. “At first, I will concentrate on the fight with Rosas. He is a defender with a strong chin, which is a reason I have to train hard,” said the Montiel. |
