Oscar De La Hoya has decided to hire trainer Nacho Beristain to prepare him for the fight with Manny Pacquiao.

American superstar boxer De La Hoya, who has claimed six different world titles, is confident the experienced Beristain would be able to help him win the fight in Las Vegas on December 6, as the trainer is familiar with his opponent Filipino champion Pacquiao.

De La Hoya had to search for a new trainer when his long-time mentor Floyd Mayweather Sr. left him three weeks ago to train English champion Ricky Hatton who is scheduled to fight Paulie Malignaggi on November 22, also in Las Vegas.

Mayweather had reportedly accepted the job offer from Hatton before deal of De La Hoya and Pacquiao was concluded.

The famed Beristain has trained Juan Manuel Márquez for his two fights with Pacquiao in the past four years. Beristain has also trained several other Mexican champions including Rafael Márquez, Joan’s Brother, to fight with his long-time opponent Israel Vazquez.

"Nacho Beristain is a great trainer who I have respected for many years and I'm honored to have him in my corner," said De La Hoya as reported in various media.

"In addition to his great tactical mind and considering that he prepared Juan Manuel Marquez for two fights against Manny Pacquiao, he knows him very well. I'm confident that with Nacho’s game plan and my execution, we'll be victorious on Dec. 6."

Beristain, too, said he was excited to be De La Hoya’s trainer for this much-anticipated fight.
