Saddam beats Jaca, plans for career in U.S.

ABCO lightweight champion Saddam Sam-k Battery, who has successfully defended his title against Jimrex Jaca of the Philippines by a technical knockout, says he plans to fight in the U.S.

Saddam defeated Jaca in the action-packed bout held on October 22 at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in Nonthaburi. After some fair trade of punches, the Thai slammed his Filipino opponent with an accurate right hit in the second round. Seeing the semi-conscious Jaca stuck in the corner, the referee ended the bout and granted a technical knockout win to Saddam at 2.41 minutes of the second round.

Jaca is a veteran boxer who has fought many top pugilists from around the world including Yodsanan Sam-k Battery and Juan Manuel Marquez, although he lost to both of them.

Saddam said, after the bout, that his next fight planned at Koh Pangan would be either against an Australian challenger or Bobby Pacquiao of the Philippines.

His Australian manager, Daniel Potter, is in a talk with American promoter Bob Arum trying to plan a career for Saddam in the U.S. after he has fought a few more local bouts.

Yodsanan, a former world champion and friend to Saddam, said the boxer still needs a lot of improvement but would soon be ready for the professional bouts in the U.S.
