PABA champion Rattanapol Korkietgym is prohibited by his promoter to fight in the southern provinces due to fear that the politically-active boxer could anger the anti-government southerners.

Rattanapol, who was publicly know for his support of a controversial former prime minister and for his public appearance to the street protesters, triggered a riot at the ring in Phattalung earlier this month. The angry local crowds, who were anti-government, seized the stage where Rattanapol was supposed to fight.

The chaos ended when the Phattalung governor calmed down the crowd, while Rattanapol’s promoter Kokiet Panichayarom said he would not arrange a fight in the south for the boxer and would send him to fight in the pro-government northeast instead.

Kokiet also prohibited Rattanopol from participating in all forms of political activities as he said it could endanger his life while instigating the boxing fans with different political views.

Rattanapol is scheduled to defend his PABA flyweight title against Richard Garcia of the Philippines in a charity event to celebrate the 85th birthday anniversary of revered monk Luang Por Koon on October 3 in Nakorn Ratchasima.

In addition to Rattanapol’s bout, the event will feature a non-title match of PABA champion Daungpet Kokietgym, while the female PABA contender Muay Kokietgym will fight her Filipino opponent.

The event will also host the match of Sirichai Emroihasip Ekchumpol vs. Saram Nohi and four other female bouts. The Channel Three network will broadcast the event at 2.30 p.m. on the day.

WBC strawweight Oleydong Kratingdaenggym, also known as Oleydong Sithsamerchai, is scheduled for a title defending fight on November 27 at Phitsanulok which will be broadcasted on the Channel Seven network. The WBC has not selected his opponent.
