Caballero cancels WBA match with Poonsawat

WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero has cancelled his defending bout against Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Thailand.
Poonsawat’s manager, Niwat Laosuwannawat, said Caballero originally agreed to fight challenger Poonsawat on a match scheduled on September 30, but the Panamanian champion later cancelled the fight, citing his injury from training.

Niwat said he has requested the World Boxing Association (WBA) to force Caballero to fight Poonsawat, who earned his right to challenge the title from a recent win over former WBA super bantamweight champion Somsak Sithchatchawal.

As the WBA match will likely be held in November, Niwat plans to arrange another match for Poonsawat on September 30 to defend his PABA title from challenger Hyok Jun Kim of North Korea.

The match will be held at Morseng Building in Rangsit and will be broadcasted by Channel Three network on 2.30 p.m.

Caballero is scheduled to fight Elvis Mejia on September 18 at the Panama City. In a rare occasion, another WBA super bantamweight title match will be held in the same event with Ricardo Cordoba fighting Luis Alberto Perez.
