Patomchoke Patompothong has defeated Edgar Gabejan by split decision in a match in Bangkok on September 19.

The match, held at Siam Commercial School, was originally planned to be an IBF Pan-Pacific junior featherweight match with Thai champion Patomchoke defending his tile from Gabejan, but the promoters agreed to arrange a non-title ten-round match after the Filipino boxer was found to be over the class weight by three and a half pounds.

Thai boxing fans discuss seriously Bredis Prescott's loss PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nathnapin O., Editor: Wissawa
Friday, 19 September 2008

In the past week, two matches that didn’t fight for the world championship were held but Thai fans were interested in them more than a match for the important boxing institute in the country. One of them was the match of Juan Diaz who won unanimous over ‘Rambo Aussie’ Michael Katsidis. BOI also gave him the world belt. Other action was the match of  Amir Khan , 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, who was punched and defeated by Bredis Prescott from Columbia in the 54th  second of the first round and became the talk of the town including Thailand  in that week. Most Thai boxing fans discussed seriously his first loss and were interested in the news of him more than Thai champion who could retain the world championship.

Kokiet plans match of Sod vs. Nishioka PDF Print E-mail
Written by Varut, Mr.Sroi, Editor: Wissawa
Thursday, 18 September 2008

Promoter Kokiet Panichayarom says he plans to send Sod Poon-insee Gym to fight WBC “interim” super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka.

Nishioka has just defeated Naphapol Kiatisakchokchai, another boxer of Kokiet’s, on Monday and claimed the WBC title.

The World Boxing Organization has recently demoted Sod Poon-insee Gym, known internationally as Sod Looknongyangtoy, from the first to the fifth in the WBO ranking, probably as a penalty of Kokiet’s refusal to have Sod fight with WBO champion Joan Manuel. Kokiet believed the pay offered by Manuel’s promoter was too low.

The Thai promoter has turned his attention to the WBC titles, but Naphapol’s recent defeat was a setback for him.

Sod is scheduled to defend his Asia Pacific WBO title against challenger Donriel Marcos of the Philippines on Friday September 26 in Chomporn. The match will be broadcasted by Channel Seven network starting at 3.00 p.m.

Naphapol defeated by Nishioka PDF Print E-mail

Thursday, 18 September 2008

Naphapol Kiatisakchokchai has been defeated by Toshiaki Nishioka in the WBC super bantamweight “interim” champion title match on September 15 at Yokohama, Japan.

The southpaw Nishioka made an aggressive move on Naphapol immediately when the first round started, but the Thai boxer kept his guards up and was able to block the one-two punches. At the end of the round, Naphapol tried to hit the Nishioka’s body with his right hook, but the Japanese did not stop pressuring him with the double strikes.

In the second round, each boxer continued to take turns to hit each others, but Nishioka diverted his attacks to Naphapol’s body. Despite some heavy hitting, the two seemed to be on an equal footing.
