Thailand’s flyweight boxer Amnat Ruenroeng has defeated Uzbekistan’s Shahriyor Isakov in the round of 16 at the AIBA World Championships in Milan, Italy.

Amnat, who represented Thailand in the Olympic Beijing Games in 2008, defeated Isakov by 10-3 on September 8 to join bantamweight Chatchai Butdee as the only remaining Thai athletes in the AIBA tournaments.

The two boxers will fight in the quarterfinal on September 9, with Amnat fighting against Russia’s Misha Aloyan and Chatchai against Eduard Abzalimov, also a Russian boxer. If any of the two win this fight, they would secure at least a bronze medal for Thailand.

Four other members of the Thai national boxing squad have been defeated in the earlier rounds.

อำนาจ นักชกทีมชาติมือวางอันดับ 3 รุ่น 51 ก.ก. ซึ่งผ่านรอบ 2 มาแบบหืดจับโดยต้องลุ้นคะแนนดิบลงต่อยรอบ 16 คนสุดท้ายกับอิซาคอฟ ชาริยอร์ จากอุซเบกิสถาน ซึ่งอำนาจโชว์ฟอร์มเหนือชั้นไล่ถลุงคู่แข่งและเอาชนะไปอย่างง่ายดายด้วย สกอร์ 10-3 คะแนน โดยอำนาจจะผ่านเข้าสู่รอบ 8 คนสุดท้ายไปพบกับมิชา อโลยาน จากรัสเซีย ดีกรีเหรียญทอง ไอบาเวิลด์คัพ 2008 และหากชนะไฟต์นี้จะได้เหรียญทองแดงทันที
