Ching-Kua Wu, president of Amateur International Boxing Association or AIBA, held the A.I.B.A. President Cup 2008 at Shinjung, Taiwan. The objectives of the program are to help boxers get ready for the Beijing Games 2008 and to train 34 referees who work in the Beijing Games.
The gold medal holder will get 2,000 US dollars, silver medal holder will get 1,500 US dollars and bronze medal holder will get 500 US dollars.

Flyweight class (51 kilograms): Somjit Jongjorhor, silver medal world championship 2007 holder, won over Anvar Yunusov, an amateur boxer from Tajikistan and the gold medal world championship 2003 holder, by score card and he got the gold medal.

Bantamweight class (54 kilograms): Worapoj Petchkoom, silver medal Olympic 2004 holder, lost Samir Mammadov, a boxer from Azerbaijan, by score cord and Worapoj grabbed the silver medal.

Lightweight class (60 kilograms): Pichai Sayotha, King’s cup best boxer, was not allowed to fight because of his swelled face. Therefore, Kim Song

Guk from North Korea, silver medal Olympic 2004 holder, grabbed the gold medal without fighting.

Middleweight class (75 kilograms): Angkarn Chompoopuang, a Thai boxer, lost Alfonso Bunko, a boxer from Venezuela and a silver medal world championship 2007 holder, by score card.

Gen.Thaweep Chantraroj, the President of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand revealed after the match that Thai boxer team for Beijing Games attended in this tournament in 6 classes, and passed through the final round in 4 classes. Thai team got 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals from Manus and Non Boonjumnong.

He’s satisfied with the result because the boxers were not hundred per cent ready according to the Paris Open. There are 2 months to go for the Beijing Games, he will send the team to train in Danung, Vietnam until July 27, and the Olympic will be held on August 8-24.
